Day 329

November 26, 2014

"walnut bar"

While shopping in an orchard stand (in nut country) we noticed this beautiful slab of walnut that barkeepers and furniture makers the world over would die for. This was a "left over scrap" from a huge walnut tree  that had to be removed from the family walnut grove.  Another "scrap" forms the back counter and two others were used as counter tops in the bathrooms.  I almost cried.......then I noticed the 100 or more acres of walnut and pecan trees on the farm.

Day 325

November 21, 2014

"perfect cones"

These perfect cone shaped trees are all along the Everitt Memorial Highway that leads up the mountain from the city of Mount Shasta. There are thousands of them, mixed in with the Pine and Ponderosa along this drive. We also see them along I-5, but not as frequently as this.  We have not been able to reference them. Anyone know what they are ?
