"windsurfing the gorge"


The Columbia River gorge near Bingen, WA is the unofficial "windsurfer's capital of the world".  Its always windy! Also the river is nice and open with good sandbars to stop and rest on.  Kite surfer's like it too.   We saw lots of both !

"up the ladder"





The Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River has installed fish ladders.  This helps the fish get past the dams as they migrate up the river to spawn.  This dam has several glass windows looking into the ladder.  There were a lot of fish moving up today.

That probably won't mean much to you unless you have, at some time, been required to name and number the 12 Cranial Nerves......

Anyway, this is Mt Olympus (the tallest one) and I doubt whether there are any hop fields on top,.,..but it is a great Mnemonic...

"Rainier at Sunrise"


Today we moved over to Centralia, Wa for a week, but we just had to get one more shot of Mt Rainier, up close and personal.  We drove 45 miles before sunrise this morning to get the sunrise shot and of course 45 miles back to camp before leaving the area.  Tomorrow we are going into Seattle for a little sightseeing.  Then, over the weekend we hope to start exploring the Olympia National Park.

Two days ago the Canada Geese were gathering at every available water hole and grassy field here in northern Idaho.  They seemed to be waiting for someone to give the word.  Apparently someone said "Lets go to Florida" !!  Today there were none to be seen.

This old boat was used by the local barber until his retirement a few years ago.  Locals say it was more fun when it was called the "barber ship"....They say the barber had one short leg but they never got a crooked haircut......
